Weather

Based along the valley of the River Nile, Cairo has a desert-like climate with high humidity. The location has been the site of many public demonstrations and protests including the one that brought down the entire regime-change in Egypt. The Egyptian Museum is also one of the most visited museums in the world, with over 136,000 artefacts from Ancient Egypt gracing its hallways.

Local shopping is never as much fun as the Khan El-Khalili, an ancient bazaar that dates back to the 14th century. Old Cairo is also the place for people who want to wander through a maze of streets and look at the way Cairo lived in older days. There are tiny shops, nooks and corners where amazing local produce and crafts are sold amidst quaint cafes.

The Great Pyramids stand about 15 kilometres from Cairo, a nice drive out of the city and into the world of the ancient pharaohs.

South America is meant for those of us who are adventourous. I really wanted to see the continent but I just felt as though that wasn’t what I wanted to see. Colombia was amazing, it was bound to be, I’d seen pictures beforehand of what it was going to be like, but I went to Punta slightly blinded, not really sure what to expect of it. I was travelling with another girl friend, so we made sure we had a good Punta Del Este apartment that was right on the beach, so that when we had finished our Strawberry Dakaris on the beach, we didn’t have to go too far back to our nice Punta accommodation.

Needless to say, the week was incredible – we didn’t stop giggling the whole time, and I think what made it so great was that we were staying in the best location and it really was top Punta Del Este real estate. Great location, great company and even more importantly great cocktails. I now really can’t decide which was better, Colombia or Punta… I guess I’m just going to have to re-visit them both to make that decision!
